About Farro
Farro tells you which dishes are vegan at any Boston restaurant, including ordinary restaurants.
Why Farro exists
The hard part of eating out as a vegan is not finding the all-vegan spot. It's finding food everywhere else. Farro covers restaurants of every kind, and it goes a level deeper: which dishes on this menu you can actually order, and what they cost. It builds that picture automatically, by reading the restaurants' own published menus, rather than waiting for users to submit updates the way a crowdsourced directory does.
How menus become a map
Farro starts from published restaurant menus and works through them dish by dish. Each dish gets a vegan label and a confidence level. Those labels add up to a rating for the restaurant, and that rating is what you see on the map. Opening a place in Farro gives you its vegan dishes with prices, rather than a leaf badge on the restaurant and a guess about the rest.
The technology behind it
Reading one menu is easy. Reading thousands is the actual work, and it is the reason Farro can cover a whole metro area instead of a short hand-picked list. Machine learning helps analyze and classify menu items at that scale, one dish at a time. Every dish shows how confident its label is, and when something cannot be confirmed Farro says so instead of showing a green check. Farro labels vegan, not allergens.
Where Farro is today
Farro launched in July 2026 and covers the Boston area, inside a 30-mile circle around the city. That is 4,400+ restaurants carrying at least one vegan dish, and 21,000+ vegan dishes. It is early and independent, and it is supported by its paying customers.

How Farro makes money
$15 for a year of access. One payment, not a subscription, and nothing renews. No ads, and no restaurant pays to rank higher. Boston is where Farro started rather than where it is meant to stop.
Who builds it
Ryan Volpi, in Boston. I spent five years as a data scientist at Flatiron Health, building and quality-checking machine-learning datasets extracted from oncology records. I build Farro the same way. Farro is currently a one-person startup, independently built and operated. I write the code, build the catalog, and answer the mail. LinkedIn · ryan@getfarro.com
