What’s Vegan at Pressed Cafe? A New England Menu Guide

Pressed Cafe has an excellent vegan menu with 29 dishes featuring vegan cheese, kebabs, smash burgers, and eggs. This guide covers the best dishes to order and important watchouts.

Of the New England chains, Pressed Cafe has arguably the best selection of vegan dishes. It’s not fully vegan or vegetarian, but it offers an extensive vegan menu with many delicious options. My location in Newton is often so packed that there is nowhere to park and no open tables. And yet, the food is so tasty that we keep going back! I also find their prices to be on the low side given the quality of their food and atmosphere, which are notably higher than most fast-casual competitors.

The Vegan Menu, In Full

Sandwiches, burgers and burritos

Vegan Reuben ($15) I love an ambitious vegan dish, especially one where every important ingredient is traditionally plant-based. This is a great example. It’s made with Vegan corned “beef”, sauerkraut, vegan cheese, and vegan Thousand Island dressing on grilled marble rye.

Vegan Shroom and Smash ($12) is vegan smash patties with specialty mushrooms, caramelized onions, vegan “cheddar”, red onions, pickles, and smash sauce. And it’s only $12!

Vegan Forager Smash ($15) is a breakfast smash burger that adds chopped plant-based “eggs” and roasted potatoes.

Vegan Zohan ($14) grilled vegan kebabs, hummus, avocado, tomato, vegan cheese and hot sauce on ciabatta.

Vegan Spicy BBQ Kebab ($14) same kebabs with barbecue sauce and topped with carrot and celery slaw, avocado, and schug.

Vegan Middle East ($15) eggplant, hummus, tahini, and amba on ciabatta or fresh pita.

Vegan Falafel Pita ($13) falafel, hummus, baba ghanoush, tahini, and pickles, with schug and amba on the side at some stores.

Vegan Market Veggie Wrap ($13) hummus, cilantro lime quinoa, avocado, and a lot of pickled vegetables.

Vegan Veggie Burrito ($12) grilled tofu, vegan cheese, roasted potatoes, mushrooms, and peppers.

Vegan Spanish Burrito ($12) swaps vegan kebabs into the burrito with avocado, black bean spread and salsa.

Vegan Ricky Martin Burrito ($14) cilantro kebabs, white rice, vegan cheese, black bean sauce, corn, avocado, and schug.

Bowls, salads and mezze

Vegan Coconut Curry Bowl ($17) roasted vegetables and pineapple in a house-made spicy coconut curry sauce with white rice. For protein, add either umami tofu or vegan kebabs.

Vegan Enter The Dragon ($15) Quinoa or rice with mushrooms, seven vegetables, edamame, kimchi, crushed peanuts, spicy peanut sauce, and pad thai sauce.

Vegan Ktzitzot Adom ($16) vegan kefta kebab in a roasted tomato and red pepper sauce over jasmine rice.

Vegan Sweet And Spicy ($15) stir-fried rice with scrambled vegan egg, charred pineapple and avocado.

Vegan Yalla Hummus Bowl ($15) hummus, vegan kefta kebabs, avocado, Israeli salad, and shakshuka sauce.

Classic Hummus Bowl ($13) and Wipe The Plate ($14) are both mezze plates with vegan pita.

Vegan Mediterranean Cauliflower ($13) fried cauliflower on shakshuka sauce with tahini and za’atar.

There are five salad options including Vegan Asian Mandarin Miri 2.0, Vegan Jaffa Salad, Vegan Sababa Kebab Salad, Vegan Bistro Greens Salad, and the Side Israeli Salad.

Black Bean Soup

Smoothies

Three smoothies sit on the vegan menu, each is $9.75: Health Nut (spinach, kale, avocado, dates, almond milk, almond butter), Green Monster, and Mango Passion Fruit (with coconut milk).

Some other vegan items show up on the main menu but aren’t listed on the vegan menu specifically. But these are all confirmed vegan and worth knowing about:

Pressed Pad Thai Bowl ($15) uses the same pad thai sauce as the vegan menu’s Enter The Dragon, aka no fish sauce. Rice noodles, seven vegetables, grilled pineapple, peanuts, and house-made peanut pad thai sauce.

Humina Humina Toast ($13) topped with hummus, pickles, tomato, roasted red peppers, pickled carrots, olives, and tahini and za’atar.

The Traditional and Rainbow Acai Bowls are made from acai blended with guarana and banana, and then topped with fruit, almonds, toasted coconut, and granola. They contain no yogurt or honey, so they are vegan!

Drinks

Pressed offers almond, oat, and coconut milk for your beverages, which makes it a great place to go for a latte or whatever form of coffee is your cup of tea. One notable standout is their Golden Mylk Latte (with almond and coconut milk by default). Two syrup cautions are in the next section.

I reached out to Pressed over email, and they confirmed that some of the coffee syrups contain dairy, including creme brulee, caramel, and pumpkin. Sadly, this means no Pumpkin Pie Latte. But if you’re looking for a fun fall beverage, they did reveal that their new house cider donut syrup is fully vegan!

Some Things to Know Before Ordering

The leaf icon on the menu means vegetarian, not vegan. For example, it shows up on the egg-and-cheese Veggie Burrito.

All the cold foams contain dairy. They have both a peach cold foam and a lemon-cheesecake foam, which rule out several drinks.

Some drink syrups contain dairy. This includes the creme brulee, caramel, and pumpkin syrups.

The Paleo Orange Balls contain honey. This info isn’t online, and another website claims these are vegan, but honey is listed on the package’s ingredients list. On the topic of bees, the Honey Tea Cake also contains honey, and the plain Organic Steel Cut Oatmeal contains bee pollen. Luckily, there is a Vegan Organic Steel Cut Oatmeal without it.

Pressed’s kitchen is not allergen-separated. Pressed posts a notice saying that every station on its line contains wheat, nuts, dairy, soy, sesame, egg, and fish, and that they do not have separate equipment.

Does the menu change by location? Not much. Pressed runs mostly the same menu at all stores with a few exclusions (e.g., the Mediterranean Cauliflower isn’t sold in Burlington or the North Nashua drive-thru).
