What's Vegan at Tatte? A Boston Menu Guide
Two vegan meals on the standard menu, a few more you can modify, and a pastry case that is almost entirely butter and egg.
Tatte has two vegan meals on their standard menu: the Broccolini & Squash Hummus Pita and the Chickpea & Fava Plate. Besides that, vegan food options include: the baguette, the Jerusalem bagel, and the grab-and-go berries and grapes. There are also a few options that can be modified to become vegan. If you're going for a drink, they have both oat and almond milk, and they charge $0.75 for either.
Overall I would say Tatte is an okay stop, but not a vegan destination. The main disappointment is that almost every item in the pastry case contains butter and egg.
Our top choice is the Chickpea & Fava Plate ($12.50). It is hummus with warm caramelized onions, green fava beans, Aleppo chili oil, dukkah, and herb salad. Overall it's a decent meal. However, it is not available at all locations: six Greater Boston Tattes do not carry it, including Back Bay at 399 Boylston, 125 Summer Street, Coolidge Corner, and three of the Cambridge cafés. At those locations the Broccolini & Squash Hummus Pita is your best option for a meal.
What's Vegan at Tatte?
Tatte does not directly label anything on the menu as vegan, but it does publish a full Allergen & Nutritional Information guide, listing wheat, milk, egg, soy, sesame, tree nuts and fish for every dish on the menu. This article is based on the summer 2026 version, but Tatte keeps the current version on its nutrition page. Most likely I'll have to rewrite this article based on the Fall menu soon.
Meals that are vegan as served
Chickpea & Fava Plate ($12.50) is vegan as served. Hummus topped with warm caramelized red onions, green fava beans, Aleppo chili oil, dukkah, and herb salad, served with pita. It is the most substantial vegan thing on the menu and our first recommendation (if it is available).
Broccolini & Squash Hummus Pita ($12.50) is also vegan as served. Roasted broccolini, butternut squash hummus, roasted mushrooms and pickled cabbage with green tahini sauce, in a pita. Listed allergens are wheat and sesame only and it is listed at every Tatte we checked.
Other Vegan items
Jerusalem Bagel ($4.00) is vegan as served. This is not your typical bagel, it's a sweet Israeli pastry dipped in simple syrup and coated in sesame. No dairy or egg. Optionally order it with jam.
Baguette ($5.00) is vegan as served. They don't have vegan butter, but you can order it with jam.
Grab & Go Berries & Grapes ($6.00) is vegan as served, obviously.
Dishes you can make vegan
Fresh Corn & Avocado Farro Bowl ($14.00) needs two changes: no goat cheese and no mustard labneh dressing. Farro (not the website, haha), fresh corn, sugar snap peas, arugula, heirloom cherry tomatoes, dill, pickled red onion and sliced avocado. In place of the labneh (a yogurt) ask for olive oil and lemon because otherwise it would be a rather dry bowl.
Roasted Cauliflower Sandwich ($12.50) can be ordered without the spiced labneh, but be aware you are removing an important component. What remains is roasted cauliflower, pine nuts, golden raisins, chilies, cilantro and capers on pita, which might be dry. Consider asking them to add hummus or something else instead.
Avocado Tartine ($13.00) is vegan without the poached eggs. Avocado, arugula, dill and radish on sourdough. Fine, but a little light for $13 once you remove the egg.
Toast ($1.75) is vegan without butter. Choose from housemade ciabatta, multigrain, sourdough, or pita, all vegan and toasted. Worth knowing if you are ordering a soup or a plate and want something alongside. You can add jam.
Two salads (Fattoush and Green & Nutty) seem like they can be made vegan with substitutions, (e.g. removing the cheese). However, the allergen guide also lists egg for both of these. I am unsure where that comes from, and the location I spoke with on the phone was not sure either. I have reached out over email to confirm, but for now assume the salads are not safe options.
Drinks
Every espresso and tea drink can be made vegan with oat milk or almond milk, both of which cost +$0.75. That covers the latte, iced latte, cappuccino, flat white, cortado, macchiato, café au lait, chai latte, matcha latte, London Fog, and, once it returns, the Tahini Pumpkin Oatmilk Latte. That last one is Tatte's tahini take on the pumpkin spice latte and it comes with oat milk by default! Based on last year's Instagram post I expect it should be available sometime in early September.
Black coffee, cold brew, espresso, americano, the red eye, every hot and iced tea, the fruit coolers, the bottled juices and the sparkling lemonades are all vegan as served with no changes.
Skip the mocha, the hot chocolate and the pistachio latte. All three list milk, and unlike the plain latte we cannot tell whether the chocolate and the pistachio syrup carry dairy of their own, so swapping the milk may not be enough. We are waiting to hear back from Tatte to confirm. The honey halva latte has honey in the syrup, so count that one out too.
Last note on the drinks, watch the cold foam options as these contain dairy in the foam.
What to Know Before Ordering
The pastry case is essentially off-limits. Alas, croissants, morning buns, kouign-amann, brownies, cookies, tarts, cakes and the brioche donuts are all butter and egg. If you're looking for a sweet treat, Tatte is likely to disappoint.
Locations differ, and so do seasons. Tatte runs a seasonal menu, and the two vegan mains are seasonal dishes. The Chickpea & Fava Plate is missing from six Greater Boston cafés today. Menus change several times a year, so check the specific location before you commit to a plan.
Online ordering handles most of this. Milk substitutions and simple removals are available through Tatte's own ordering. More detailed changes, such as swapping the labneh for oil and lemon on the farro bowl, are easier to ask for at the counter.
Is the Jerusalem Bagel vegan? Its allergen list shows wheat and sesame, with no milk and no egg, and it is described as dipped in simple syrup rather than honey.
Does Tatte use a shared preparation area? Yes. Tatte states on its own FAQ that it uses all major allergens in its kitchens and cannot guarantee no cross-contamination, which is also why it says "gluten-friendly" rather than gluten-free. This guide is about ingredients, not about allergy safety. If you have a dairy allergy rather than a dairy preference, that is a conversation with the staff, not a menu-reading exercise.
What should I avoid? Five items read vegetarian or lighter than they are. The famous Tomato Soup contains milk and egg, and so does the Summer Corn Bisque, which is not a vegetable soup in any useful sense. The Mediterranean Farro Salad has feta in it. The Granola is baked with honey. And the Tahini Caesar Salad contains fish, which is common for Caesar salads.
How We Verified This Guide
We last checked this on September 1, 2026, against Tatte's Allergen & Nutritional Information guide, Summer 2026 edition, version 05.28.26, and against Tatte's own current menu. We read the menu at 26 Greater Boston locations, 14 of them in Boston proper, which is how we found that the Chickpea & Fava Plate is missing from six of them. The statements about shared kitchens and cross-contamination are quoted from Tatte's published FAQ. Oat milk and almond milk are listed on their online ordering platform.
Up to date info on Tatte and thousands of other restaurants and cafes in Boston is available on Farro. Farro's menu analysis reviewed every item on this menu and flagged the five vegan-as-served items and the modifiable ones. Each of those was checked by hand against Tatte's published allergens before this guide went out.
Menus and preparation change, and they vary by location. If you find something out of date here, please send me an email at ryan@getfarro.com.
