Where to Get Vegan Donuts in Boston
Brioche, cake, cider and cinnamon sugar. The Boston shops with the best vegan donuts.
Donuts can be one of the trickiest baked goods. A simple glazed ring, for example, often contains eggs and milk in the dough, and milk or butter in the glaze.
Luckily, Boston's best donut shops go out of their way to offer vegan donuts. At Farro, I track the vegan dishes hiding on ordinary menus around Boston, including donuts. Below are some of the best places to find vegan donuts in and around the city.
Blackbird Doughnuts
South End, Fenway, Beacon Hill, Brighton, Harvard Square, Newton Centre, and Watertown
Blackbird marks its vegan donuts with a (v), and its October menu has nine of them. The menu changes on the first of every month, so the flavors rotate.
Start with The Blackbird ($4.50), the house vanilla cake donut with vanilla glaze, or the Chocolate Old Fashioned ($4.50). The October flavors are a Cider Cake rolled in cinnamon sugar, a brioche Cider Glazed with sprinkles, and an Apple Butter Jam Bismarck ($5.25). There is also a Maple Braid, a Caramel Coconut, a Vanilla Sugar, and the GF Lemon Poppy, Blackbird's gluten-friendly donut. All but the Bismarck are $4.50.
One thing to know: Blackbird says all of its brioche dough is vegan, but many of the glazes and fillings are not. The Vanilla Glazed, for example, has no (v) on this month's menu. Every donut is fried in soybean oil, and only the gluten-friendly one has a separate fryer.
If you want something savory, the Beacon Hill, Fenway, Newton Centre, and Watertown shops make a Vegan Breakfast Sandwich with JUST Egg, Impossible sausage, and vegan cheddar on a brioche bun. Harvard Square has a Vegan Breakfast Bowl instead.
Union Square Donuts
Union Square, Somerville · plus the Seaport, Boston Public Market, Fenway (Time Out Market), Harvard Square, Brookline, Assembly Row, Lynnfield, and Hingham
Union Square Donuts started in Somerville and now has nine shops around Greater Boston. Its classic donuts have egg and dairy, but it always keeps a few vegan ones, and each has "(Vegan)" in its name.
The regular is Cinnamon Sugar. This fall the other two are a Chai Apple Cider, the shop's best-selling vegan donut, dipped in a spiced cider glaze and dusted with chai spices, and a Vanilla Glazed with Rainbow Sprinkles, with a glaze made from oat milk. Each is $4.45 on its online menu.
Donut Villa Diner
Cambridge (20 Prospect St), Malden (1 Highland Ave), and Arlington (319 Broadway)
Donut Villa is a diner first, and it has a full vegan breakfast menu, so it also made my vegan brunch list. Its Cambridge and Arlington online menus list five vegan donuts: Vegan Glazed, Vegan Chocolate Frosted, Vegan Coconut, Vegan Almond Joy, and Vegan Apple Cider, at $3.50 each.
In Malden you can take home a half dozen for $16.99. That is the best deal on this list. Malden opens at 6 a.m. every day and Cambridge at 6:30 on weekdays, and the Arlington location stays open into the evening.
Jennifer Lee's Gourmet Bakery
All vegan · Boston Public Market, 100 Hanover St · also in Woburn (312 Main St)
Everything at Jennifer Lee's is vegan, so every donut in the case is too. The everyday menu keeps a few cake donuts, such as Strawberry Frosted, Coffee Cake, and Cookie Doe. Fried donuts are a weekend item, and some weekends the bakery takes pre-orders for filled donuts ($6), such as Boston Cream Pie and S'mores.
Flavors change daily, and the bakery updates its DoorDash menu each day with what it has. The Boston stall is open until 6 p.m. Sunday to Tuesday and until 7 p.m. Wednesday to Saturday. Union Square Donuts has a stall in the same market, so you can compare.
Veggie Galaxy
Vegetarian diner with a vegan bakery · 450 Massachusetts Ave, Central Square, Cambridge
Every dessert at Veggie Galaxy is vegan, and its bakery makes doughnuts on weekends, so plan a Saturday or Sunday visit. The site does not name the flavors, so ask at the counter.
This month's specials also include an Apple Cider Donut Cheesecake ($8.99), a spiced apple butter cheesecake in a cider donut crust, topped with cider donut holes. Specials change, so it may be gone by the time you go.
The rest of the diner is vegetarian, not vegan, so say "vegan" when you order anything that isn't from the pastry case.
Not Ya Mama's Vegan Cafe
All vegan · 7 Church St, Salem
Not Ya Mama's doesn't fry its own donuts. It sells vegan Blackbird doughnuts, delivered fresh, so if you are in Salem and can't get to Boston, you can still get them. The flavors follow what Blackbird sends. Its current menu has a Cider Cake ($4.50), plus day-old donuts for $3. The whole cafe is vegan, so every donut in the case is vegan.
It is open Wednesday to Sunday only.
One more, if you call first
Sugar Baking Co. (1884 Centre St, West Roxbury). The bakery's FAQ names Planted Donuts, its own line of plant-based cake donuts, as its vegan option. They are not on its online menu, so call (617-327-8427) before you go.
What about Dunkin' and Honey Dew?
Dunkin' does not sell a vegan donut in the US. Nothing on its donut menu is marked vegan or plant-based, and the allergen guide it published in June lists egg and milk in every donut it covers. Honey Dew's online menu lists milk and eggs in all 23 of its donuts. For a vegan donut, go to one of the shops above.
How We Checked This
This list was last checked October 15, 2026. We started from Farro's own menu data for every open restaurant within about 15 miles of Boston, and we looked for donuts the shop itself labels vegan, or donuts at a shop where everything is vegan. Every flavor, price, and hour below was then read from the shop's own menu or ordering page.
Flavors, hours, and prices change, and Blackbird's menu changes every month. If you find something out of date, email me at ryan@getfarro.com.
This guide covers the donuts, but Farro covers the rest, with a searchable map of over 30,000 vegan options at restaurants around Boston.
